Jeff Bethke, anyone?
If you aren’t familiar with the Youtube celebrity, just know that he’s a young adult with a huge passion for sharing the good news of Jesus. He’s most popularly known for his spoken word videos like the one below–
This past Friday, Will and I were honored with the opportunity to hear him speak at a local event put on by the Miami-based organization Fight Hunger. The event included all sorts of entertainment, from dancers to rap artists, from singers to skits. It was really an awesome night!
It always amazes me to see other young people making such a huge impact on the lives around them, and stepping wildly out of their comfort zones to do so. Whenever I feel the urge to do something nice for someone it’s usually in a much smaller format– holding the door open, giving someone a ride, treating someone to lunch, etc. When I’m exposed to individuals who are also my age and willing to do crazy things to change lives (and in some cases SAVE them), it makes all my little worldly problems melt into a measly puddle of mush.
Last video, I promise! But this one specifically has spoken to Will and I in massive ways. Jeff’s honesty was exactly what we needed as a new couple going to church for the first time in our lives.
Okay, sermon over
Cheesecake time!
On Saturday afternoon we headed over to have lunch with Will’s mom, who just so happens to be a recent graduate of Le Cordon Bleu. Needless to say, I wasn’t surprised when she whipped out a giant cheesecake for everyone, and three mini wheat-free cheesecakes for me.
Cheesecake + Jesus? Sounds like a perfect weekend to me

That cheesecake looks yum.. And so thoughtful to make special mini ones for you!
I totally understand where you are coming from with giving big vs. giving small. I too do the little things, but I feel urges to do more, but it can be so scary. Being a Christian shouldn’t be comfortable though because we should always be stepping outside our comfort zones to share Jesus with others. It is definitely something I want to work toward more!
That sounds like an awesome event.
And topped with cheesecake? Perfection.
