Howdy folks
Well, it looks like I’ve got some good news and some bad news to share. Due to the fact that I’ve always been one to save the best for last, I’ll break the bad news to you first.
The bad: My little old computer is about to bite the dust.
I’ve had my white Sony VAIO for about 5 years after my parents gave it to me as an early graduation present during high school. After trekking this thing around with me practically everywhere I go, overcharging the battery (whoops 8) ) one too many times, and filling up the memory with immeasurable pictures of food and inanimate objects (kind of like these), my little girl has begun to show the first signs of moving on to a better place.
I actually captured this picture at a good moment, but sometimes out of the blue, the screen goes NUTS and starts flashing all types of lines across the picture. Kind of like The Ring, PC style?
Every now and then she decides to calm down and go back to normal, but last night the lines got so intense that I couldn’t even make out anything on the screen at all!
What do you guys think—should I wait until she breathes her last breath or start looking for new replacements now? Any good recommendations?
The Good: This little beauty arrived via FedEx last night
I won this little number through Chocolate Covered Katie’s giveaway a few weeks ago, and have been eager to get my hands on it ever since! Obviously, I’ve already looked into a number of ice cream recipes, including guilt-less healthier versions too
Well, at least that’s what I was doing until my computer starting going all “The Ring” on me last night. Come to think of it, maybe I should refrain from freaking myself out with references of zombie girls coming through my computer screen…
Eats:
After a 2 mile run this morning in place of Bodyrock (more on that later 8) ) I snacked on 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt + Stevia with a chopped pear and cinnamon mixed in.
Remember when I said that my noodley dinner was a beast? Well, I lied. In fact, I think the dictionary may have to reevaluate it’s definition of “beast” too after this bad boy.
Romaine, chopped purple cabbage, avocado, kidney beans, balsamic vinegar, and ginger dressing.
Served with a handful of some new-to-me hemp chips –
Muy bueno! I’m a lover of natural hemp protein powder so I figured that I’d give these a try. Although they only have 3 grams of protein per serving, they ended up being pretty darn tasty and worthy of a repeat in the future.
I’m about to go whip up a quick-fix for dinner, then catch up over coffee with an old friend.
Now, what to make….
A bit to think about: What type of computer do you own?

oh no, i’m so sorry to hear about your laptop! 5 years is actually pretty good these days it seems for a laptop to last, so it sounds like you got some good use out of it. i would recommend asking for advice from Best Buy as to which kind to get next. the couple guys that helped us when we were looking for a new laptop were very knowledgeable and friendly.

word on the street is that my hubs got me a MacBookAir for my b-day next month….SUPER excited about that!!

I think you should def get a new one before that one poops out. There is nothing worse than being without a computer!! Well, ok there are things worse, but you know what I mean…

It’s tough to say good bye to computers, but think of the new one you might have soon! Congrats on the winning! Those machines are amazing! I have a similar one by Cuisinart and love it! All your eats look delicious, that salad got me very hungry all of a sudden!

I own a macbook pro and it is my baby. I highly recommend one- it is more expensive, but worth it and you’ll most likely not look back;)
Sorry about your laptop Britt! I would DEF go for a Mac Book Pro. I had been a PC user for most of my computer using days and then I Switched..and now I will never ever go back! haha

Those pears look delicious, I bet they tasted amazing. I have a MacBook Pro and I am in love with it. After having PCs my entire life, I switched to mac because of my job and have NEVER looked back. I cannot say enough good things about my MacBook Pro – oh and since you’re a student, If you give them (either online or in the store) your school email address, you will get a student discount (every penny helps). Good luck!

I admit it, I’m biased! I have two laptops, an HP and a Macbook and the Macbook blows my other laptop out of the water. If I ever have to buy another, it will definitely be a Macbook Pro.

You’re not going to believe this, but I have the same computer in pink. Seriously, too funny. I’m not sure what version exactly you have, but I had the same problem with my screen and they said that they were getting a LOT of calls from all over from people with the same problem so they were fixing the screens for free even if it was past warranty. You could probably call them and check it out?!
haha man so we have the same name, almost same brother’s name, AND almost same computer? Crazy stuff!
I’ll have to look into that. Thanks!

I’m sure everyone has already said the same thing, but once you go mac you never go back!

Ah! Whenever I’ve had a computer die, my life basically becomes one giant mess until I get myself up & running on something new. I’d definitely suggest replacing it before it completely dies — that’s what I’ll be doing when my current computer starts to fizzle out.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop. I’d love a Macbook, but I’m pretty attached to Windows Live Writer!

I have an HP that was a graduation/Christmas gift, and my sister got that experience this Christmas/Graduation with her ASUS. My only real complaint with mine is that sometimes the mousepad freaks out on me and doesn’t work properly, but it usually fixes itself pretty quickly. I know lots of people who have Macs and love them, and I’ve considered getting one, but that won’t happen for a while yet…

Ahh I’m sorry about your laptop! I had a pc in undergrad and then it basically died and I decided to get a macbook pro. It is seriously the best thing in the world. I’m in love with it! I never want a pc again! I know they are a bit pricier, but I think it’s worth it!

I’m shocked by how good people are saying Macbook Pro’s are. I had one for four years and didn’t think it was all that great. About this time last year I got rid of it because it was running sooo slow and bought a Samsung QX410-J01 which I absolutely love it! Besides the iPhone I doubt I’ll ever buy another Apple computer.

Booo sorry about your computer! I have a mac from 2008 and LOVE IT and it’s still going strong! Expensive yes, but I got a deal when I entered into my freshman year at UVM

How cool about the win too… can’t wait to see what dishes you create

Macattack Pro! So worth the money! I’ve actually decided to do BodyRock on days I don’t go to the gym. Since I have classes Monday through Thursday (and always go to fitness classes or gym, or both) I will do BodyRock on Fridays and Sundays. Or maybe just Fridays. I’m not a quitter I swear, but if I don’t take advantage of my student recreation fee and take the free yet awesome classes I would be a fool!

That salad beast looks amazing! Gotta love those veggies!
Good luck with your computer switcharoo. I am all about the Dell computers because with online teaching a PC is mandatory. Also, I am too frugal to splurge on a Mac.

I feel you on the computer thing! I reformatted mine to its original functioning not too long ago and deleted everything on it because it was sooo slow. I am trying to keep it in top shape (and continue to put everyone on my external harddrive) until I graduate from grad school!

My computer (Dell Laptop) just died not long ago
. Good news though, I purchased an iMac, and it is amazing! It may cost alittle more, but it is totally worth it if you want a great computer. Plus it has iCloud now which can be synced to your iPhone and iPod or iTouch for unlimited use of documents on any and all your apple products… aka awesome!

I say go with a pc. You can get solid pc for a fantastic price these days. I tend to like HPs and Toshibas. With your student discount, I imagine you could get a great deal. But I’m probably a little biased being an IT person in a pc-using company

It’s pretty impressive that your computer lasted 5 years! A lot of them will just die after about 3 or so. I like my MacBook but it is definitely not perfect. I wouldn’t say I’m a die-hard Apple-holic
