Cauldron Oatmeal

Hey guys! Happy “What I Ate Wednesday!” 8)

Personal Fitness:

This morning in personal fitness class we’re meeting in the gym for a self-guided work out. Literally, that’s our class for today. Oh, pull my leg why don’t you?

yogaaa 002

I’m actually pretty stoked because I’m typically not a morning-workout person, so this will be a nice change in my schedule. My attitude towards getting to the gym and working on my fitness in general has become so much more laid back since this summer. Quite frankly, this is exactly what my body was asking for.

Before, I would always center every single aspect of my day around my workout and daily activity, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in moderation, but the focus that I had was much more than a “healthy fix.” It was more like a “fulfillment factor”– so you could only imagine what it was like missing a workout.

Breakfast:

This morning I was craving a bowl of oats, but I was on a time crunch and the preparation process for me is so much more than “heat oats and serve.” It’s more of a cauldron-stirring type process where I just throw random ingredients into a pot that just so happens to be cooking my oats as well.
Actually, this guy has the right idea…

Now I wonder where he got that giant spoon?… ;)

No time for a cauldron of oats just means that I have more time for a bowl of cereal!

1 cup Erewhon brown rice cereal, 1/4 cup blueberries, sliced banana, and unsweetened shredded coconut.

Con bacon de turkey (turkey bacon)

Have a great Wednesday! I can’t wait to see all the yummy foods you guys have eaten today :D

A bit to think about: Do you make your oats quickly, or is it more of a cauldron process?

Oh oats are definitely a drawn out process for me. I’ve found making them the night before is a sure proof way I have time for them in the morning – otherwise , well, we all know how life goes.

My family hasn’t had a microwave in awhile, so its usually the cauldron process for me! I find that the processs quicker now thats its my only option of having cooked oats. Happy WIAW :)

Making oats is a process for sure! It takes a VERY long time, but I make a weeks worth so I don’t have to stand there and stir each day! ….Your analogy makes me laugh. :)

I’m a quick oatmeal maker, but then I dump all the good stuff on top after it has cooked! It’s funny how big a bowl is needed for 1c of oatmeal :-) Enjoy your morning workout!

That giant spoon pic had me majorly lol-ing haha I can totally see myself brewing up a massive bowl of deliciousness like that ;)
When I ate oats, I was a microwave gal, I don’t think I ever cooked it on the stove…guess I’m too lazy and impatient at breakfast time haha

Since my mornings are pretty tightly scheduled I usually throw everything into a pot and walk away to do my hair in the meantime…but that would probably explain why it usually ends up burnt on the bottom! Maybe I should do it cauldron-style ;)

Con bacon de turkey… haha love it =) I make my oats quickly, unless it’s for the entire family… then it’s more of a cauldron process.

Haha I’d love a cauldron of oats! :)

I cook them both ways – it depends how much time I have and what kind of oatmeal I’m using. I prefer it the old-fashioned way!

I’m a cauldron oatmeal maker, I think mainly because I wake up so darned early that I have plenty of time to whip them up the way I like them before I have to rush out the door. And plus, I like steel cut oats, which take a little longer to make. If I didn’t have enough time though, I’d probably resort to a pimped out bowl of cereal, especially since I’ve recently discovered that it actually does a pretty good job at holding me over :)

I make my oats in the microwave the night before, and it only takes about 10 minutes, so I would consider it pretty quick! I would totally get inpatient doing stove top in the morning, even if I had a big spoon to entertain me with :)

Do you just reheat it in the morning? Or do you have it cold-style?

Since our microwave was mysteriously dropped on the floor several years back, it’s stove top oats or none at all for me! Between you and me, I think my mum broke on purpose ‘cos she hates the things! Anyway, I have been conditioned into being anti-microwave now, I think, and kind of like getting up and having them bubbling away. Having said that, though, on super early get ups – it’s toast or cereal for me! No way you’d get me waiting for steel cuts in the morning – even oats can’t drag me out of bed any earlier than necessary!

Good for you going for an early work out. I feel like I’m dying when I move at all fast in the morning. ;-) I really envy and have mucho respect for all the early birds who can get up and go for a run or a gym class. The thought of it makes me want to go back to bed! ;-)

Breakfast is usually the last thing I make in the am, so it is usually super quick!! My oats are always made in the microwave unless I have the day off. I think they taste almost as good in the microwave to be honest :)

I love thinking of making warm oats as though they were being cooked in a cauldron… very Autumn like :)

I am obsessed with cold food so usually I soak my oats every night and eat them super cold in the morning. If I am in a pinch in the morning I load up peanut butter on some millet bread, grab a banana and call it breakfast!

I rarely eat warm oats but sometimes they just totally hit the spot in the winter. And sometimes, so does a good old fashioned bowl of cold cereal ;) Yum!

I LOVE morning workouts… I hope that you have a fabulous class!!

Oooo overnight oats style ;) Do you add any mix-ins in the morning? I’ve been wanting to do this!

I usually don’t have the patience for slow cooking oats. I am way too hungry to wait :) With that said I have yet to master any oats other than the prepackaged kind where you just add hot water. I am working on it…

Morning workouts are the best! That class sounds totally awesome.

It is the BEST. At night a mix 1/3 cup oats with 1/3 cup unsweetened coconut milk (or any milk), a scoop of greens powder,a big dollop of yogurt or protein powder, and banana slices. In the morning I add berries, nuts, nut butters…whatever I have around. It is especially good in an almost empty nut butter jar. The peanut butter at the bottom is such a fun treat to get to! :-D

If I know I want cold oatmeal then I prep them the night before without cooking it and place in the fridge over night. That doesn’t take me long at all and they’re ready I’m the morning. But f I Want hot oats it’s a much longer process on the stovetop .they come out so much more delicious than in the microwave! Everything just cooks better together.

How great that your morning workout is part of your class! I rarely, if ever do morning workouts so I’d love that it was just a part of my schedule too. And haha love the idea of you making a cauldron of oatmeal! I bet yours tastes MUCH better than the instant kind I’m used to!

I’m not much of a morning workout person, but I have no other choice but to force myself because I know I won’t feel like it after work.

You are so funny with turkey bacon~ do you microwave it or cook it on the skillet?

can we just talk about how long it takes me to make my oats? Like foreeeeever. Or I make them in my mini crockpot overnight so I can eat them in the morning. I love them voluminous so I add water, cook, add water, cook, etc.
I love morning workouts. that way I know I’ve done it and it’s done and I don’t have to worry about whether I’ll be able to make time for it. Plus, I feel energized!
