Tani Thai Restaurant Review

by Brittany on July 9, 2011

Will has been at home studying a lot for a huge chemistry exam this past week, so in honor of it being over & done, we decided to go out for our second date night of the week :)

After visiting Tani a while back and falling in love with the authenticity of their Thai dishes, we knew exactly what our growling stomachs were demanding, and we gladly complied.

On the outside, Tani is comparable to a little hidden gem amongst a slew of neighboring restaurants and small businesses. Both times that I have visited Tani, I have never had to wait for a table and the host was very quick to seat my party. The ambiance of the restaurant is very clean and welcoming, and the seating is comfortable and spacious.

Once seated, our server was immediately at our table with fresh glasses of water without request. There is also the option of purchasing additional drinks, but Will & I were content with water.

After glancing at the menu, Will decided to start with the Tani Dumplings and I selected the Basil Mussels.

The Tani Dumplings were breaded & my sensitivity to wheat kept me from trying them, but Will insisted that they were out of this world.

The Basil Mussels were very good, and I was especially impressed by the spicy Thai flavoring in the dish. The taste was so delicious that I found myself eating the little chopped vegetables out of the leftover base on the plate… :)

For our entrees, I decided on the Lost in the Garden with chicken, and Will selected the Hello Ginger with chicken.

The Lost in the Garden exceeded all of my expectations! I was looking for more of a basic vegetable-heavy dish, and this was better than anything I could have imagined! One thing I’ve noticed with vegetable dishes at some restaurants is that I usually feel like I could easily replicate them at home. This dish does not fall into that category at all!

The Hello Ginger that Will ordered was unbelievable as well. The ginger flavoring was bold, yet not overpowering in the least. He enjoyed it very much.

Both dishes were served with white rice (with the option of brown upon purchase) and a small plate of spices to customize your dish. Our waitress was also very helpful in determining the spiciness of our meals (Will & I stuck to medium because we’re still Thai newbies) :)
Overall, I don’t think I could ever say too many positive things about Tani! The experience was enjoyable and our server was attentive and very friendly. (My water glass was never empty– and boy do I down water at restaurants ;) )  I recommend Tani to anybody in the South Miami area who is craving an authentic Thai dish! I promise, you will not be disappointed :D

Breakfast: This morning I woke up to 1 slice of light brown rice toast and 1 slice of light tapioca toast– both smeared with almond butter & topped with sliced bananas. On the side I had 4 slices of turkey bacon.

Bacon face?
On the side I enjoyed my morning cup of coffee, except instead of a Christmas mug I decided to represent that UCF pride ;)

Happy Saturday everyone! Have a great start to your weekend!
